Fans expressed shock and anger Wednesday when individual game tickets for the season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers, featuring LeBron James, were listed with a minimum get-in price of $1,000. In some instances, these prices represented a 400 percent increase compared to the previous season. The Knicks acknowledged the error in a statement, apologizing for overcharging loyal fans and assuring that anyone who had already purchased tickets would be refunded the difference.

The incident occurred as anticipation builds for the Knicks' season, with the team set to receive their championship rings and raise their third title banner before the October 20 home opener against the 76ers. This matchup is further heightened by the arrivals of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown in Philadelphia. The Knicks and 76ers are considered strong contenders for the upcoming NBA championship, though New York will be without key reserve Mitchell Robinson, who has signed with the Boston Celtics.

Even on the resale market, where prices can surge, tickets for the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden were reportedly fetching a minimum of $3,940, with average prices around $7,683. Courtside seats were listed for as much as $65,000.

The Knicks and 76ers will also face each other in Philadelphia on October 5 to begin their preseason schedules.
