Knicks Seek First Win Against Undefeated Pistons Amid Early Season Struggles

The New York Knicks are grappling with an unexpected 0-3 start to the season following their championship run, facing mounting pressure as they host the undefeated Detroit Pistons at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. The Knicks, who are 3.5-point favorites for the matchup, are aiming to secure their first victory to curb early-season concerns.

Despite strong starts in each of their first three games, the Knicks have faltered in the second half, a trend attributed by some to fatigue. Offensive struggles have also surfaced, marked by at least 15 turnovers per game and a lack of offensive cohesion, particularly in passing to cutting teammates. Their three-point shooting has been inconsistent, with the exception of Miles McBride's performance against the Celtics.

Guard Jalen Brunson has acknowledged his responsibility for the team's winless streak and is expected to be a focal point in their effort to turn the season around. The Pistons, meanwhile, are dealing with their own injury concerns. Jalen Duren is sidelined with a hamstring strain, and Ausar Thompson is questionable with an ankle sprain.

Thompson, who has previously taken on the defensive assignment against Brunson, has been a significant factor in their matchups. A limited or absent Thompson could provide Brunson with an opportunity to regain his scoring rhythm. Given the Knicks' current standing, Brunson is anticipated to play aggressively and prioritize scoring, especially with Duren out of the paint and Thompson potentially compromised.

New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson (11) celebrates with center James Wiseman (35) during a game against the Orlando Magic.

Sports betting analyst Malik Smith, who has focused on NBA player props since 2017, highlighted Jalen Brunson's potential to exceed 25.5 points in this game, citing DraftKings odds of -111.
