Knicks Face New Center Challenge in 2026-27 Season Defense
Andre Drummond signs with New York as team navigates the loss of key rim protector Mitchell Robinson.
The New York Knicks will begin their 2026-27 NBA season defense with a new center on the roster, as Andre Drummond has signed with the team. Drummond, 33, joins the Knicks after the departure of eight-year veteran Mitchell Robinson, who moved to Boston in free agency. Robinson's exit is attributed to owner James Dolan's "second-apron mandate."
The Knicks return nearly all of their rotational players from the previous season's championship team, but Robinson's absence leaves a void in rim protection and rebounding. Drummond, while past his prime All-Star days, still offers rebounding prowess. The team will rely on his ability to secure extra possessions and his defensive capabilities.
The frontcourt depth is a concern for the Knicks, making Drummond's contribution crucial. The team is looking to replicate the production and defensive impact that Robinson provided.
