Klopp Spars With German Press Over Kimmich's Absence

Germany manager Jurgen Klopp has again engaged in a tense exchange with reporters, this time addressing questions about Joshua Kimmich's exclusion from the current squad.

Klopp, who took over the national team recently, has maintained a guarded stance with the media, having previously stated he would resign if his family were targeted. This marks his first international camp in charge, with Germany playing four matches during this break.

Kimmich was part of the initial squad, but a midfield trio of Tom Bischof, Aleksandar Pavlovic, and Florian Wirtz impressed in the recent 2-0 victory over Serbia. These players are expected to feature in Germany's upcoming match against Greece on Sunday.

During a press conference, Klopp reacted sharply when questioned about Kimmich. "It's such a beautiful evening," he stated. "And without even mentioning it, you're trying to bring up a topic that isn't really a topic. And in the end, it'll be a Jo Kimmich story. You'll manage that, won't you? Pavlovic, Bischof, Wirtz – it worked brilliantly."

He continued, expressing his view that the media was intent on manufacturing a narrative. "You can see that it's extremely difficult, not because I want to downplay or exaggerate a story or anything like that, but simply because you all want to create a story. That's normal, of course. We played a very good game. Now imagine if we had exactly three midfielders in Germany. Exactly three. Why should only one player always play? You have to be in good form to play. Just like at every club. You don't play there if you're not in good form."

Klopp outlined the need for diverse player profiles, including leaders, players with stamina, and creative individuals. He argued that focusing on Kimmich's absence overshadowed the team's positive performance.

Germany's recent results under Klopp include a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, a 1-0 loss to Greece in his first home game, and the 2-0 win over Serbia. The team aims to secure a win against Greece on Sunday.

Earlier in the week, Klopp had criticized what he termed "pathetic" leaks of Germany's team selections, underscoring his desire to protect his squad. "I'm very happy with the situation," he affirmed. "I really have to say, very happy. Nobody who can actually play football needs to worry about anything or anything like that. I'm looking forward to the future with the lads. And with everyone who will be there. And I hope we have the kind of selection you'd normally have."

Concluding his remarks on the matter, Klopp expressed a sense of resignation regarding the media's persistent focus. "I have no chance of answering the question in a way that would prevent you from making your own thing out of it anyway. So, I give up. Officially, right now. I'm giving up on this issue. Do what you want."
