Kevin Keegan, the celebrated former England and Newcastle United footballer, has died at the age of 75. His family announced his passing after a short battle with illness.

Keegan was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer in January, having been admitted to hospital due to abdominal problems. His family released a statement expressing their immense sadness, noting that he was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments.

"Kevin, a double Ballon d'Or winner, was a much loved husband, father and grandfather," the statement read. "The family would like to thank Kevin's incredible medical team for all their support. This is a hugely difficult time and they are requesting space and privacy."

Keegan, a two-time Ballon d'Or recipient, was a prominent figure in English football, both as a player and a manager. He had a notable career with Liverpool and Hamburg, and also managed the England national team and several clubs.

In February, Keegan made a public appearance with Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves to promote an upcoming event. He appeared in good spirits, joking, "I'm still alive!" when asked how he was doing, and was seen smiling during the brief promotional video. During this appearance, he was dressed in a black shirt, grey suit, and pants.
