Kelsey Mitchell Breaks WNBA Scoring Record as Fever Defeat Tempo
Caitlin Clark returns from FIBA World Cup with a double-double, while Mitchell sets new single-season scoring mark.
Kelsey Mitchell set a new WNBA single-season scoring record with 1,034 points on Friday night, leading the Indiana Fever to a 103-85 victory over the Toronto Tempo. Mitchell's 33-point performance surpassed the previous record of 1,021 points set by A'ja Wilson in 2024.
Mitchell also extended her WNBA record by scoring at least 20 points for the 25th consecutive game. She shot an efficient 12 for 17 from the field, including 7 of 11 from three-point range.
Caitlin Clark, playing her first game since helping the U.S. win the FIBA World Cup, contributed 28 points and a season-high 14 assists for the Fever. This marked Clark's 14th double-double of her rookie season. She was perfect from the free-throw line, making all 12 attempts.
The game was the first for both teams following a nearly three-week break for the World Cup.
The Tempo were led by Laura Juskaite with 22 points and Kiki Rice with 18. Isabelle Harrison and Temi Fagbenle added 16 points each, but the Tempo suffered their fifth consecutive loss. Toronto, which started its inaugural season at 9-9, has since gone 2-21.
Toronto was without veteran guard Marina Mabrey, who the team announced would miss the final four games of the season due to a right adductor injury. Mabrey has not played since August 18.
The Fever, who have clinched a playoff spot, are now tied with the Atlanta Dream for first place in the Eastern Conference. The Tempo have been eliminated from postseason contention.
The Indiana Fever will host the Washington Mystics on Sunday, while the Toronto Tempo are set to face the New York Liberty next.
