The Indianapolis Colts have signed veteran NFL wide receiver Keenan Allen to a one-year deal worth up to $8.32 million. The 34-year-old's return to the league comes after a season with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he recorded 81 receptions for 777 yards and four touchdowns.
Allen's arrival is intended to address depth issues in the Colts' receiving corps. The team had previously seen Michael Pittman Jr. traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers and wide receiver Alec Pierce undergo ankle surgery. Pierce, who was awarded a four-year, $114 million extension earlier this offseason, has missed the entirety of training camp while recovering and his return timeline remains uncertain.
Allen and Colts head coach Shane Steichen have a prior connection, as Steichen served as the Chargers' offensive coordinator for several seasons during Allen's tenure with the team. The two have remained in contact, and discussions about a potential move to Indianapolis have been ongoing for months.
Allen was originally drafted by the Chargers in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent 11 seasons with the franchise before a trade to the Chicago Bears in 2024. He returned to Los Angeles before last season, quickly becoming quarterback Justin Herbert's most-targeted receiver. A six-time Pro Bowl selection, Allen ranks 13th in NFL history for receptions, with over 12,000 receiving yards and 70 touchdown catches.
Allen joins an Indianapolis offense that features running back Jonathan Taylor, tight end Tyler Warren, and quarterback Daniel Jones. The Colts are preparing for their Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens on September 13.
