Katie Boulter Advances to Japan Open Quarter-finals
British tennis player secures a dominant victory over Viktorija Golubic in Osaka.
Katie Boulter has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Japan Open after defeating Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland in a match that lasted less than an hour. Boulter won the match with a score of 6-2, 6-1 in Osaka.
In the next round, Boulter, the eighth seed in the competition, is set to face either Antonia Ruzic of Croatia or American Kayla Day. Boulter showed a strong performance after saving a break point in the opening game. She then dominated the match from a 2-2 score in the first set, winning nine consecutive games. Golubic managed to take one game before Boulter closed out the match.
Boulter, who recently lost the British number one ranking to Sonny Kartal, is expected to regain the position following her performance this week. She commented on her ability to handle challenging conditions, particularly the strong wind affecting play.
"I think one of the biggest things for me is staying patient in the wind," Boulter stated. "Sometimes I can get a little frustrated, and I'm very pleased that I didn't allow that to affect me today and I think I ended up playing some really good tennis in the second set. I'm really pleased with the performance."
