Boubacar Kamara acknowledged the intense physical demands of the Premier League, describing it as the most physically demanding period of his career. The Aston Villa midfielder noted the constant battles for possession and the increasing strength and intensity from all players.

Kamara, who has cemented his reputation as a key player for Villa since joining in 2022, recently returned from a serious knee injury. He admitted that the rehabilitation process was mentally challenging, particularly in the initial months following surgery. "You can't work, you have to stay at home," Kamara said. "This is why I didn’t watch Villa play during that time, either at the ground or on TV. You want to play then you look at your knee and realise you can’t."

The midfielder's absence was keenly felt by Aston Villa, with the team's results significantly improving when he is on the field. Kamara missed the latter half of the previous season, including Villa's Europa League triumph and a top-four finish, due to his knee injury sustained in January. He also missed the opportunity to represent France in the World Cup.

Life under manager Unai Emery is characterized by rigorous training sessions and lengthy tactical briefings. Kamara explained that new players often undertake additional work with Emery's assistants to adapt quickly to the team's demanding approach. "In training, every day you have the same task," Kamara stated. "When new players arrive, they do extra work with Unai’s assistants. They teach them what they need to do so their adaptation can be as quick as possible."

Despite the current challenges, including the team's search for their first point and goal of the season after early defeats, Kamara expressed optimism about Aston Villa's future. He highlighted the team's consistency in recent years, achieving top-six finishes and European qualification multiple times, and believes the club's best days are still ahead.

Kamara's recovery journey involved focusing on family and friends during the difficult initial months. "You keep going, work, and try not to think about football, think more about family, my kids, my friends. But it’s tough," he recalled. He also mentioned the emotional difficulty of being present before the Europa League final in Istanbul but unable to participate due to his injury.

Kamara emphasized that the team's tactical approach can vary significantly from game to game, depending on the manager's strategy, whether it involves a low block with quick transitions or a high press. "Every game, we change our structure," he said.

Unai Emery's training methods are intense

The midfielder's return to fitness provides a significant boost for Aston Villa as they navigate a challenging Premier League season. "So yes, in some moments it’s difficult but I tried to keep focused and now it is time to look forward again," Kamara concluded.
