Kai Rooney Scores Four Goals in Manchester United Youth Match

Kai Rooney, son of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, has scored four goals for the club's Under-18 team in a 6-0 victory against Burnley in Premier League 2.

Rooney, 16, showcased sharp finishing and instincts throughout the match. His first goal came from a rebound after a teammate's header hit the post. He then converted a penalty he won himself early in the second half. A header from a corner completed his hat-trick, followed by a powerful strike from his right foot to secure his fourth goal.

Rooney has been playing on the right wing and has now accumulated five goals and an assist in his last three appearances for the team. This performance offers a positive note for the club amid fan dissatisfaction and recent on-field struggles.

Kai Rooney signed with agent Paul Stretford, who has long represented his father, in March. Despite performing well for Manchester United, Kai has expressed a desire to forge his own path. "I'm trying to make a name for myself, not try and be my dad because I'm my own person," he stated in August 2024. "I want to see how my career goes, obviously try to do the best I can and try to reach the biggest stages."

His parents have emphasized a hands-off approach to coaching, focusing instead on his mental well-being. "He has great coaches at Manchester United, so I take a stand-off approach," Wayne Rooney told the BBC. "I speak to him, but for me it’s all about his mentality and his mindset, to make sure he keeps enjoying it – that’s the main thing for me."

Coleen Rooney noted earlier this year that Kai has been accustomed to his father's public profile from a young age. "He’s lived it (being Wayne's son) from a young age," she told The Times. "When we used to go to matches when he was younger, he’d get a lot of people coming up saying, 'Oh, are you Wayne Rooney’s son?' But he’s strong-minded, always has been. I’ve got no worries in the way he deals with it."
