Kai Rooney, the eldest son of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, has further enhanced his reputation in the club's academy by scoring four goals in a recent 6-0 victory over Burnley's U18 side.

The 16-year-old forward, who is set to turn 17, demonstrated a range of skills during the Under-18 Premier League North fixture, scoring with his left foot twice, his head once, and his right foot once. His goals came in a span of 44 minutes, with three of them scored in a rapid 15-minute period in the second half. Manchester United's official match report highlighted Rooney as the standout player in the second half of the game.

This performance followed another goal scored by Rooney in the team's 4-1 comeback win against Blackburn Rovers U18s on Saturday. However, he was later sent off in that match after receiving two yellow cards.

Like his father, Kai is deeply focused on football. He has reportedly adopted aspects of Wayne Rooney's disciplined diet, consuming carbohydrates two days before matches, followed by salmon and rice, and rice pudding the night before games. Academy insiders have noted his impressive focus.

Despite the legacy of his father, who is Manchester United's all-time leading goalscorer, Kai has expressed a desire to forge his own path. His mother, Coleen Rooney, recalled an instance where Kai asked his father to stop attending his grassroots matches because the attention on Wayne was distracting. Kai himself stated in August 2024, "I'm trying to make a name for myself, not try and be my dad because I'm my own person."

Wayne Rooney has taken a hands-off approach to his son's development, focusing on his mentality and enjoyment of the game. Coleen Rooney has also commented on Kai's strong mindset in handling the attention that comes with being his father's son.

Kai Rooney has been a Puma ambassador since the age of 12. He previously wore laceless boots due to breaking both his feet, but was seen with laced boots during the match against Burnley.
