Kai Havertz Cites Harry Kane as Inspiration Ahead of Champions League Clash
Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has revealed that Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane serves as a key inspiration, noting similarities in their playing styles.
Arsenal's Kai Havertz has identified Harry Kane as a player he looks up to, drawing parallels between his own game and that of the Bayern Munich forward. Havertz highlighted Kane's ability to drop deep into midfield, deviating from the traditional role of a No. 9.
In an interview with Men in Blazers Media Network, the 27-year-old stated, "For me he’s one of the best strikers I’ve seen in my life." He continued, "He’s probably also not a proper No9, but still the numbers he produces and also assists, and how he links up and helps the team when they’re deep or something is amazing – so he is definitely someone that I look up to."
Kane, who previously scored 280 goals for Tottenham Hotspur, has since moved to Bayern Munich. He has scored 155 goals in 157 games for the German club since his transfer in 2023.
Arsenal is set to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage. The Gunners will be aiming to replicate their 3-1 victory over Bayern from the previous season.
Havertz also discussed his relationship with fellow Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres. Gyokeres joined Arsenal for £67 million in the summer of 2025 but has struggled to secure a regular starting position.
Havertz has been selected to start in eight of Arsenal's 11 games this season, scoring three goals. Gyokeres, meanwhile, has made limited starts and is yet to score.
Despite their competition for the striker role, Havertz described their relationship as strong. "We connected well from day one and no-one is angry if someone else plays," Havertz said. "I know Viktor, he wants to play every game like I do but when the referee blows the whistle or when the training session is finished we put that aside and be team-mates and achieve things together and that’s what we do. He is a top guy and a top striker."
The two players also compete together in padel. When asked about their skills on the court, Havertz playfully remarked, "If you asked him he would say him for sure… I think he has more power but I have the better technique!"
