Justin Verlander's Final Start Ends with Emotional Send-Off by Daughter

Justin Verlander, the celebrated Tigers pitcher, experienced a deeply emotional moment during his final career start on Saturday, as his daughter, Genevieve, was brought to the mound to remove him from the game. The send-off occurred in the sixth inning of the Tigers’ 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Comerica Park.

As Tigers manager A.J. Hinch approached the mound, he did not come alone. Instead, he brought Verlander's young daughter to the pitcher's rubber. Genevieve ran to her father, and the two shared a hug that lasted for over 15 seconds. Verlander, visibly moved, was seen shaking with emotion and shedding tears as his daughter embraced him.

After his moment with Genevieve, Verlander composed himself and hugged his infielders before acknowledging his teammates and coaches, who had all emerged from the dugout. He then walked off the mound hand-in-hand with his daughter, accompanied by his wife, Kate Upton, who was holding their second child. The crowd at Comerica Park gave the longtime ace a resounding ovation.

Verlander, who started the game throwing 95 mph fastballs and struck out six batters, was making just his second start of the year due to injury. This marked his first appearance at Comerica Park in 3,324 days.
