Jürgen Klopp has confirmed he is on the verge of taking charge of Germany's national team, with a formal announcement anticipated in the coming days.

Klopp stated that an agreement has been reached with the Red Bull group, where he served as Head of Global Soccer since early 2025. This departure arrangement is described as 'generous' and removes the final significant obstacle to his appointment by the German Football Association (DFB).

While the exit from Red Bull is settled, negotiations with the DFB are still being finalized. According to Sky Sports Germany, Klopp could be officially unveiled as early as Friday if these remaining formalities are completed. The move would mark his return to management after departing Liverpool in 2024.

Speaking to MagentaTV, Klopp indicated that while no final decision has been made, discussions are progressing positively. "Nothing is final yet, but talks have been ongoing and everything is moving in the right direction," Klopp said. "I've reached an agreement with Red Bull, a very generous one, so there's really nothing standing in the way."

He acknowledged that further discussions are necessary with the governing body. "However, many more discussions need to take place because we're talking to a governing body and a lot of people need to be informed. Nothing has been decided, but we're not far from being able to make an announcement. Ideally, it should happen in the next few days; the decision will be made."

The potential appointment has garnered support from within the German football community. Mario Götze, who played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, expressed his belief that Klopp is the ideal candidate to revitalize the national team.

"What he understands, and what most coaches may not, is how to manage people," Götze commented. "Managing players, managing expectations, putting people together as a whole, he understood that in the perfect way."

Götze added that Klopp's ability to foster a positive team environment was key to his success. "He can be very sharp about what he wants and demands. That’s why he was so successful. I read an interview when he was at Liverpool: He said he has to put people who like each other together so they can perform at 120 per cent instead of 100 percent. That is what he did."

Germany is seeking to rebound after a period of disappointing performances in recent World Cup campaigns. The DFB is reportedly looking to Klopp, recognized for his success at Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool, to lead a rebuilding phase.

Klopp is also expected to influence the national team's coaching structure, potentially implementing the high-intensity style that characterized his club tenures. Sporting director Rudi Völler is expected to remain in his role, providing continuity.

The finalization of discussions is expected within days, paving the way for Klopp to assemble his staff and begin preparations for the national team's upcoming challenges.
