Great Britain's Josh Kerr has set a new men's mile world record at the London Diamond League, clocking a time of three minutes 42.66 seconds.

Kerr's performance surpassed the previous record of 3:43.13, held for 27 years by Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj since 1999. The 28-year-old athlete, who had expressed his intention to break the record in London earlier this year, achieved this feat in front of a sold-out crowd of 60,000 spectators at London Stadium.

With this victory, Kerr becomes the seventh British runner to hold the mile world record and the first since Steve Cram in 1985. Kerr is a five-time global medallist in his athletic career.
