Josh Kerr, the reigning Commonwealth Games mile champion, fully immersed himself in the experience of competing for Scotland in Glasgow, engaging with fans and embracing his homecoming after securing the gold medal. Kerr, who also holds the world record in the mile, described the atmosphere in Glasgow as "bouncing" despite a lack of sleep following his victory.

Throughout the week, Kerr actively shared his experience on social media, posting videos of himself running through the city's streets, parks, and tracks, as well as images of his warm-up routines in unconventional locations. He made a point of connecting with the crowd that came to watch him race.

Among the spectators were Kerr's grandparents, nephews, his first coach, and former training partners. The athlete also interacted with numerous young fans, some of whom are budding athletes themselves and others who may be inspired to pursue the sport. This engagement echoed Kerr's own experience at the 2014 Glasgow Games, where he was inspired by the athletes he saw compete.

Following his emotional medal ceremony, Kerr spent time with fans who requested selfies and autographs. He expressed his desire to create memorable moments for them, stating that there is "absolutely nothing stopping any of them going out and doing what I've just done." He believes that young people in Scotland have the potential to become "one of the best runners in the history of these distances."
