Joseph Sawyer, previously known as Joe Gacy in WWE, made a triumphant return to Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) on Aug. 15, 2026, by capturing the GCW World Championship. The event, GCW Homecoming Night 1, took place at the Showboat Resort Atlantic City in New Jersey.
Sawyer secured the title by defeating Atticus Cogar in a hard-fought and bloody match. This marked Sawyer's first appearance in GCW since 2020, when he wrestled under the name Psycho Joe. The championship bout featured intense action, including chair shots and attempts to break Cogar through a door. Sawyer ultimately won the match with a move he called the Sister Abigail DDT.
Ultraviolent Wrestling and Tributes
The event showcased a variety of extreme wrestling matches. Otis Cogar successfully defended his GCW Ultraviolent Championship against Anakin Murphy. Vipress defeated Christian Napier in a Chola Chain Match, tying herself and her opponent together with a chain and utilizing light tubes as weapons before forcing a submission. Following her victory, Vipress challenged Otis Cogar for his Ultraviolent Championship.
In a six-man deathmatch, Nick Gage, Nino Extremo, and Sicko The Clown defeated Conor Claxton, Dr. Redacted, and Jimmy Lloyd. During the match, Sicko The Clown performed a Spanish fly on Claxton from a scaffold through light tubes, leading to Claxton being taken to the hospital. He was reported to be okay.
The event also paid tribute to the late WWE star Bray Wyatt, with Cogar using his entrance music and wearing tribute gear. Other matches on the card included KJ Orso and Sam Stackhouse winning the GCW Tag Team Championship, an eight-man tag match, and Joey Janela defeating Marko Stunt with assistance from Ryan O’Neill. The night concluded with Sawyer’s victory celebration, which was met with enthusiasm from the GCW crowd.
GCW Homecoming Night 2 is scheduled for the following day at the same venue, with events available to stream on Triller TV+.
