Jonathan Kuminga has signed a two-year, $13 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, bypassing a more lucrative offer from the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal makes Kuminga one of the final notable free agents to commit to a team as training camps approach.

Kuminga, who was reportedly offered a three-year deal worth at least $12 million per season by the Lakers, chose Minnesota's offer of approximately $6.5 million per year. Similar offers were also believed to be on the table from the Chicago Bulls and Portland Trail Blazers. His decision comes as the Lakers continue to face offseason challenges, including reports of ownership changes and internal disputes.

The Lakers had been viewed as a potential destination for Kuminga, who could have provided a much-needed versatile wing defender. His choice to join the Timberwolves means he will play alongside Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball.
