San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow announced his retirement following the 2026 season, a decision stemming from a two-decade battle with body myositis, a degenerative muscle disease. Giants radio play-by-play commentator Jon Miller shared details of his conversation with Krukow after learning the news.

Miller appeared on 95.7 The Game, recounting that Krukow personally informed him of his decision. "He had the kindness to call me yesterday and…Just let me know person to person," Miller said. "It was very sad and it was something that we were able to talk personally and remember some stories, and have some laughs, and then I tried to talk him out of it."

While Miller admitted his attempt to dissuade Krukow was partly in jest, he understood the inevitability of the decision due to Krukow's health condition. "He’s had this tragic health issue and a debilitating issue," Miller stated. "I told him, I said ‘The thing is, you’ve never been better in my opinion than you are right now. You’re at the top of your game,’ And that is the kind of the amazing part of it, there’s no sadness at the ballpark when you’re around Mike."

Miller described Krukow as consistently upbeat and passionate about baseball, conveying that Krukow's enthusiasm remains undiminished despite his health challenges. Krukow, who grew up in San Gabriel, California, and was a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers in his youth, began his professional baseball career after being selected by the Chicago Cubs in 1973. He was traded to the San Francisco Giants in 1983, becoming a fixture with the team for decades.

His broadcasting career commenced in 1990 with part-time assignments for the Giants. By 1993, Krukow transitioned to full-time broadcasting, a role he has maintained for 36 years.
