Johnstone Burgh Forced to Play Two Cup Ties Simultaneously

Scottish fifth-tier club Johnstone Burgh has been placed in a difficult position, with a fixture clash forcing them to schedule two cup ties on the same day, with kick-offs separated by only half an hour. The club has exhausted all options in an attempt to resolve the scheduling conflict, including proposing to play one of the matches immediately before or after the other, and offering to forfeit their share of gate receipts.

Despite these efforts, no solution could be found that would allow the team to play both games with their strongest available squad while adhering to traditional Saturday afternoon kick-off times. "We are extremely disappointed that, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to find a reasonable solution that would allow us to compete in both games with our strongest available squad," the club stated in a release. They also expressed gratitude to Tayport and other clubs involved for considering the proposed options.

Johnstone Burgh currently sits eighth in the Lowland League West. They won the Scottish Communities Cup, formerly the Scottish Junior Cup, two seasons ago. The other clubs involved in the tie, Tayport and Dunipace, are sixth in the Midlands Premier League and second from bottom in the Lowland League East, respectively. All three clubs have already experienced fixture postponements due to their progress in the Scottish Cup. Tayport was eliminated by Stranraer, Dunipace lost to Largs Thistle, and Burgh's tie against Formartine United was postponed and rescheduled for the upcoming Saturday.
