During a New York Yankees broadcast on Tuesday night, analyst Joe Girardi voiced his surprise at broadcaster Michael Kay's unconventional method of stirring his hot tea. The incident occurred in the fifth inning while the game was being shown.

Kay explained that the Yankees' stage manager, Jennifer, had provided him with tea and sweetener, but no stirring utensil. Consequently, Kay resorted to using the arm of his glasses to stir his drink. This action drew a strong reaction from Girardi.

"Let's talk about what you did last half inning," Girardi said during the broadcast. "You ask for tea, hot tea. Not sure why, I don’t know if you’re cold. And Jennifer was nice enough to give you your tea and your Equal. You steeped, and then you added your Equal. That dissolves, that dissolves! And you stirred it with your glasses."

Girardi questioned Kay's actions, suggesting the sweetener would dissolve on its own and that using glasses was unnecessary. He jokingly asked Kay if he had taken science classes in school, implying that such an action defied basic principles. Kay confirmed he had taken science classes, to which Girardi responded that the laws of physics might not apply in Kay's vicinity.

"That’s a first for me, I’ve never seen anyone do that," Girardi stated. "That’s why I was taken aback."

Kay, however, indicated that this practice might continue. "If we work together for another 10 years, you’re going to see it a lot," he replied to Girardi.

Girardi, a former manager for the Yankees from 2008 to 2017, led the team to a World Series title in 2009. He later managed the Philadelphia Phillies before being fired in 2022. Girardi joined the Yankees broadcast team in 2024 and was on air for the Yankees' 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.
