Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is on the verge of joining Aston Villa in a transfer deal valued at £38 million. Gomes has reportedly departed Wolves' training camp in Portugal and is scheduled for a medical examination on Thursday.

The proposed transfer includes an initial fee of £34 million, with an additional £4 million contingent on add-ons. This move comes as Aston Villa seeks to bolster its midfield. The club recently saw Youri Tielemans depart for Manchester United in a £35 million deal and is facing an extended absence for Amadou Onana, who sustained a serious knee injury during the World Cup.

Aston Villa is also reportedly nearing the completion of a club-record signing for Switzerland international Johan Manzambi, who is expected to join from Freiburg for over £50 million.

Atletico Madrid had expressed interest in Gomes but did not finalize an agreement. Gomes made 41 appearances for Wolves last season, contributing to their Premier League campaign. He joined Wolves from Flamengo in 2023 and has played 130 times for the club, scoring seven goals.
