New York Jets fans will get their first look at No. 2 overall draft pick David Bailey on Friday night when the team faces the Buccaneers in its preseason opener. Bailey has been a standout performer throughout training camp, frequently disrupting offensive plays and showcasing his pass-rushing skills.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn acknowledged Bailey's talent, stating that the rookie is a "damn good pass rusher." Glenn added that while Bailey is expected to win many of his individual battles, he is also focused on coaching the rookie through plays where he doesn't succeed. "He’s going to learn some things, too," Glenn said.

Veteran linebacker Demario Davis, who has observed numerous rookies over his 15-year career, expressed high praise for Bailey. "He looks like a No. 2 pick. He looks like everything that’s been advertised or more," Davis commented. He highlighted Bailey's instincts not only in rushing the passer but also in getting to the ball carrier and his savviness in run defense, noting that the rookie "already has a lot of elements of a pro. He’s mature for his age."

Bailey was selected ahead of Arvell Reese, who went to the New York Giants at No. 5 overall. His performance in training camp has solidified his status as a highly anticipated player for the upcoming season.

While Bailey and fellow first-round pick WR Omar Cooper Jr. are expected to play, other rookies will be absent. Tight end Kenyon Sadiq, who practiced early in camp but has been sidelined for two weeks due to a setback following sports hernia surgery in May, is expected to be ready for Week 1. Cornerback D’Angelo Ponds has not practiced due to a calf injury, and his continued absence raises concerns about his projected role as the starting nickel cornerback.

The team also waived defensive end Eric Watts with an injury settlement.
