Jermaine Pennant Recovering After Dog Attack Requires Over 50 Stitches
Former Premier League winger describes being mauled by a German Shepherd while walking his own dog.
Former Premier League footballer Jermaine Pennant has undergone more than 50 stitches following a dog attack in north London last week. The 43-year-old ex-winger, known for his time at Liverpool and Stoke City, was walking his dog, King, when a German Shepherd allegedly attacked.
Pennant stated that the dog latched onto his leg and refused to release its grip, even as he attempted to protect King. According to Pennant, his own dog then intervened, fighting off the attacking animal and preventing the situation from escalating further.
"King then intervened to help fight off the attacking dog, preventing 'what could've been an horrendous situation,'" Pennant said in an Instagram post. He added that his dog sustained only a minor nip but was covered in blood.
The former player told The Sun that he required hospital treatment for four bite wounds on his right leg. Pennant, who is now a pundit for Talksport, opted not to report the incident to the police. He shared an image on Instagram showing his bandaged leg, accompanied by King, and thanked his partner, Mimmi Montgomery, for her care.
Pennant retired from professional football in 2018 after a 19-year career, during which he made 231 Premier League appearances.
