Jaylen Brown, a five-time NBA All-Star, is reportedly conveying that his time with the Boston Celtics may be over, according to recent reports. This sentiment comes after his name surfaced in connection with significant trade discussions over the past few weeks.
Sources indicate that Brown has been "acting like he’s done in Boston," with some suggesting he is "not very happy with this." The speculation intensified as Brown was reportedly included in trade proposals involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and LaMelo Ball. ESPN reported that the Celtics offered Brown, among other assets, in an attempt to acquire Antetokounmpo, who ultimately was traded to the Miami Heat. Prior to the Minnesota Timberwolves acquiring Ball from the Charlotte Hornets, reports also indicated that Boston and Minnesota were discussing a trade that would have sent Brown to Minnesota.
This is not the first instance of Brown being a subject of trade rumors, as the Celtics reportedly offered him to the Brooklyn Nets in 2022 in exchange for Kevin Durant.
Despite the ongoing speculation, Bill Simmons suggested on his podcast that Brown might remain with the Celtics until at least the start of the 2026-27 NBA season. Simmons cited the questionable trade value of Brown according to analytics, a sentiment Brown himself has previously publicly disputed, calling it "ridiculous."
One analytics employee reportedly rated Brown as the seventh-best player on their own team, a valuation that contrasts with the Celtics' apparent view of the player. Celtics executive Brad Stevens stated that Brown "is a big part of us" and has been "amazing" and "an amazing teammate and a great person to be around." Stevens emphasized Brown's value to the team, while acknowledging the unpredictable nature of the NBA, stating, "I’m never going to predict the future."
