New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart sustained a forceful hit from Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown early in the regular-season opener on Sunday night. The collision occurred along the Giants' sideline, with Dart being driven out of bounds. Following the play, Overshown received an unnecessary roughness penalty.

Despite the severity of the hit and Dart's history of concussion evaluations, he did not enter the blue medical tent for assessment. This comes after Dart expressed frustration during the preseason regarding frequent mandatory evaluations. In an August preseason game against the Vikings, Dart was sent to the medical tent, which he later described as puzzling, stating he believed the hit had only knocked the wind out of him. He was cleared to return to that game but voiced his displeasure at being removed.

During his 2025 rookie season, Dart underwent concussion evaluations five times and was diagnosed with one concussion, causing him to miss two games. He also exited a November game against the Bears with a concussion but returned later in the season.

The hit on Sunday night was comparable in severity to those Dart experienced in his previous season. However, in this instance, no medical evaluation was mandated. Some speculate that Dart's preseason comments may have influenced the independent neurotrauma consultant's decision to allow him to continue playing without a visit to the tent.
