Jason Cundy Revels in Role as Football's Ultimate Wind-Up Merchant
The radio personality details his ongoing torment of co-host Jamie O'Hara and the origins of the infamous Ange Postecoglou mask.
Jason Cundy has embraced his persona as football's most notorious wind-up merchant, a role he claims brings immense popularity to talkSPORT's Sports Bar show. Central to this act is his relentless teasing of co-host Jamie O'Hara, often involving a mask of Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.
Cundy expressed taking "a huge amount" of pleasure in mocking O'Hara, whose former club Tottenham's struggles provide ample material. "Every single game, they lose or manage not to score. Never has the expression 'the gift that keeps giving' been more appropriate to Spurs at any other time," Cundy stated.
The Postecoglou mask has become a signature element of Cundy's act. He revealed the origin of the mask, explaining it was purchased when Postecoglou was manager of Nottingham Forest. By the time the mask arrived, Postecoglou had been sacked, prompting Cundy to find a new use for it. He confirmed that other masks exist, including ones of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, which are planned for future use.
Cundy even escalated his antics by wearing the Postecoglou mask to O'Hara's wedding. "It absolutely stinks! It's got a weird smell about it. I tell Jamie it's the smell of failure," he said of the mask, suggesting its worsening condition mirrors Tottenham's performance.
Beyond his on-air persona, Cundy also discussed his role as a spokesperson for TENA Men, highlighting the importance of men's health. As a survivor of testicular cancer, he emphasized the need for regular check-ups and PSA tests. "I have a voice to speak and spread a message - go and get yourself checked for testicular cancer, or get a PSA check. You have a duty to yourself and your family," he urged.
Cundy addressed the potential pitfall of his act if Tottenham were to improve. However, he expressed little concern about a dramatic turnaround for the club. "You can't finish 17th, 17th, and go into a new season expecting there to be a huge dramatic change," he commented. He further posited that Tottenham would be in the Championship's 'big six' if they weren't careful and suggested that manager Roberto De Zerbi could face dismissal if results do not improve, citing the club's transfer strategy and lack of chance creation.
