Jannik Sinner, the current world number one, has announced his withdrawal from the US Open due to a knee injury. The Italian player stated that despite efforts to recover with his team and medical staff, he needs more time to heal.

Sinner has not competed since winning the Wimbledon title in July. He reported that recent on-court sessions in Monte Carlo indicated that his right knee still requires additional recovery. "We have been back on court in Monte Carlo over the last couple of days and have realised that I still need more time to recover from my right knee issue," Sinner said in a statement.

"I'm obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York has a special place in my heart," he added. The exact timeline for his return to competition remains unclear.
