Jannik Sinner received congratulations from the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, shortly after retaining his Wimbledon men's singles title on Sunday. The 24-year-old Italian player shared a moment with the young royals and their parents after Kate presented him with the championship trophy.
Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 11, were seen engaging with Sinner, shaking hands with the player. Their younger sibling, Prince Louis, eight, was not present. Prince William and Catherine appeared to converse with Sinner as he held his trophy.
Sinner secured his second consecutive Wimbledon title by defeating Germany's Alexander Zverev. After losing the first set, Sinner rallied to win the match 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Centre Court. This victory marks the 10th time a male player has successfully defended the title in the Open era. Sinner's path to the final did not include a match against rival Carlos Alcaraz due to an injury sustained by Alcaraz.
Princess Catherine, wearing a green dress, presented Sinner with the trophy. Earlier in the tournament, she had also met British player Arthur Fery, who reached the semi-finals as a wildcard. Fery had spoken of inviting the Prince and Princess of Wales' children to play tennis with him.
During the final, the Royal Family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, were seen in the Royal Box. In response to the 29C (84F) heat, members of the family were later seen using sunhats and handheld fans. Prince George was observed using a portable fan and wearing orange sunglasses.
This marked the second consecutive year that Catherine presented Sinner with the Wimbledon trophy. She was accompanied by Prince William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte at last year's final as well, with Prince Louis also absent from that event.
