Jamie Carragher Avoids Bankruptcy After Settling Tax Debt
The former Liverpool defender has resolved an unpaid tax bill with HM Revenue and Customs.
Former Premier League footballer Jamie Carragher will not face bankruptcy after settling a tax debt with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Judge Nicholas Briggs dismissed a bankruptcy petition against the ex-Liverpool defender at the Insolvency and Companies Court on Tuesday.
Kevin Hassan, representing HMRC, informed the court that the debt had been paid. While no specific figure was disclosed in court, previous reports indicated the sum was between £700,000 and £800,000. Carragher, who spent his entire professional career with Liverpool, was a member of the squad that won the Champions League in 2005. He retired in 2013 after making 737 appearances for the club and has since transitioned to a career as a football pundit for broadcasters including Sky Sports and CBS Sports.
