Jalen Hurts to Miss Remainder of Season After Blood Clots Found in Lungs

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will reportedly miss the remainder of the NFL season due to the discovery of multiple blood clots in his lungs. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the treatment process is expected to take at least three months, effectively ending Hurts' season.

The Eagles released a joint statement with Hurts' agent, Nicole Lynn, detailing his diagnosis. Hurts has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, which involve blood clots in the lungs. The statement indicated that his condition was initially diagnosed by specialists in London as a left calf superficial vein thrombosis, but further testing led to the current diagnosis.

According to the statement, Hurts is clinically stable with no significant functional limitations. His treatment will involve anticoagulation therapy, commonly known as blood thinners. During this period, he will be prohibited from participating in any contact activities, including football. The prognosis is described as very good, with expectations of a full recovery and the opportunity to resume football activities once he is no longer on blood thinners.

The news comes after an earlier discovery of a blood clot in Hurts' leg prior to the Eagles' matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 11 in London. At that time, the clot was described as superficial, and medical personnel cleared him to play in that game, a 19-17 loss for the Eagles. However, a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the clot, leading to further testing and the more serious diagnosis.

Earlier in the week, Hurts had practiced with the team, but the discovery prompted him to be ruled out for the Eagles' subsequent road loss to the Carolina Panthers. Despite the current setback, the joint statement expressed confidence in a full recovery with no anticipated long-term effects.
