Jalen Hurts Addresses 'Unique' Injury Amid Eagles' Growing Concern
Quarterback Jalen Hurts described his undisclosed ailment as 'very unique' while the Philadelphia Eagles face a significant injury crisis with 24 players on their report.
Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, has added to the mystery surrounding his health by describing his current injury as a 'very unique experience.' Hurts has been on the Eagles' injury report with a calf issue since last Friday, though he was a full participant in practice and had no game designation for their recent loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Despite not being officially downgraded before the game, Hurts' description of his condition has raised questions. He indicated he sustained the injury during the Rams game, but his comments in a midweek press conference provided few specifics about its nature or extent. "I don't want to get into the details of kind of leading up to the game and whatnot, but got nicked up in the Rams game," Hurts stated.
Hurts' situation is part of a broader injury crisis for the Eagles, with 24 players currently on their lengthy injury report. Head coach Nick Sirianni expressed optimism that key players Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith might return for the upcoming game against the Carolina Panthers. Sirianni has emphasized the team's need to manage the situation without making excuses.
"This is life in the NFL, and we will do the things that we can control to put ourselves in the best position to win against a very good football team," Sirianni said earlier this month. "You will never hear me use anything as an excuse. Our job is to go handle the things that we can control, tough, detailed and together, and put ourselves in the best position to win this upcoming week."
Hurts acknowledged the challenge of playing with a depleted supporting cast. "This is when you find out what you have. You find out who you're going out there to battle with," he said before the Jaguars loss. "You see how you respond to adversity, how you show up to work every day, what's your energy, what's your level of persistence and resilience and determination to go out there and do the job."
