The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed tight end Brenton Strange to a three-year contract extension worth $48 million, keeping him with the team through the 2029 season. The deal includes up to $25 million in guarantees. Strange, 25, was entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Strange’s new contract places him among the league's top tight ends, ranking fifth in average annual value at $16 million and eighth in total compensation. He was originally selected by the Jaguars with the 61st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft after a collegiate career at Penn State, where he recorded 11 touchdowns.

During his rookie season in 2023, Strange played a limited role behind established tight end Evan Engram, catching five passes for 35 yards over 14 games. However, his role expanded significantly in 2024 when Engram missed time due to injury. Strange appeared in all 17 games that season, finishing with 40 receptions for 411 yards and two touchdowns.

He further elevated his performance in 2025, setting career highs with 46 catches, 540 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. Strange's development was a notable factor in the Jaguars' improved performance, as the team saw a nine-game increase in wins, finishing 13-4 and securing an AFC South title. The team's record was 11-1 when Strange was healthy for at least 12 games, with an average of 30.1 points per game, compared to a 2-3 record and 22.6 points per game when he was sidelined for five contests.

Strange is expected to remain an integral part of head coach Liam Coen's offense in 2026. This is despite the team drafting another tight end, Nate Boerkircher, early in the recent draft. The Jaguars are scheduled to open their 2026 season at home against the Cleveland Browns on September 13.
