Jacob deGrom will not be on the move before the trade deadline, as the pitcher has declined to waive his no-trade clause and intends to stay with the Texas Rangers. The Athletic reported Monday that deGrom informed the team of his decision to remain in Texas.
The Braves were reportedly among the teams that inquired about deGrom's availability, though it remains unclear what their chances might have been had he been open to a trade. It is also not known if deGrom would reconsider his stance for a different potential deal.
DeGrom has been an effective pitcher for the Rangers this season, even at 38 years old and several years removed from his second Cy Young Award win. He has posted a 3.96 earned run average and a 1.14 walks plus hits per inning pitched, with 135 strikeouts over 113 2/3 innings. In the previous season, he was named an American League All-Star, recording 185 strikeouts in 30 starts.
He is currently under contract with the Rangers for $37 million in 2027 and has a club option for $20 million in 2028.
The Rangers have already made one trade prior to the deadline, sending infielder Josh Smith to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for left-handed pitcher Adam Macko. The team is also reportedly expected to explore trade possibilities for shortstop Corey Seager, who possesses a partial no-trade clause, and pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who has a full no-trade clause.
This trade deadline has already seen significant player movement, with several pitchers, including Tarik Skubal, Freddy Peralta, and Kevin Gausman, having been dealt to new clubs.
