Jack Grealish Praised for £10,000 Donation to Fan Battling Cancer
Everton supporter lauded for generosity toward father-of-three facing aggressive kidney cancer.
Manchester City player Jack Grealish has drawn praise from fans for his £10,000 donation to a fundraising campaign for an Everton supporter diagnosed with aggressive kidney cancer.
The donation was made to the campaign for Leon, 35, a father of three, who is reportedly battling one of the most aggressive forms of kidney cancer and has been given one to three years to live.
DJ Anton Powers, an Evertonian, shared the appeal on social media Wednesday night, noting Grealish's swift and generous response. "What an absolute gent Jack Grealish is," Powers wrote on social media. "I put up an Insta story up late last night about a heartbreaking situation for a big Everton fan. And Jack goes on to donate to his fund. What a top guy."
Fans responded enthusiastically to Powers' post, commending Grealish for his generosity and noting his history of similar charitable actions. "Believe he makes a lot of charity donations like this, gent of the game," one user commented. "More players should follow."
Another fan wrote, "In fairness Grealish has shown over the years that he's class. Fair play." A third added, "Absolute top lad is Jack. You can tell he comes from good parents and wants to help where he can. Never advertises what he does either it's always others that tell his story of just what a good lad he is."
Leon's partner, Crystal Duffey, launched the fundraising page. Her statement indicates the funds will be used to provide "access to the best possible care."
Grealish has a documented history of supporting charitable causes. In 2021, he donated £5,000 to the family of a woman who died in a car accident. He also contributed £5,000 towards funeral costs for an Aston Villa fan in 2023. In the same year, he gave £5,000 to a Birmingham City-supporting family's appeal to fund their son Dylan Lamb's trip to America for treatment for blood cell cancer. Additional past donations include £1,000 in 2025 for funeral fees and £1,400 for a man needing specialist cancer treatment.
