The New York Islanders have appointed Evan Gold as the general manager of their American Hockey League affiliate in Hamilton, the team announced Monday. Gold also joins the Islanders' front office as an assistant general manager.
Gold comes to the Islanders after spending the past 12 years with the Boston Bruins organization. He most recently served as the general manager of the AHL's Providence Bruins for the last three seasons. During his tenure, Providence reached the playoffs in all three campaigns and achieved the AHL's best record in the 2025-26 season with 110 points. Gold also held the position of director of legal affairs for the Bruins starting in 2015 and served as an assistant general manager for their NHL club from the 2019-20 season.
In his new role, Gold will oversee the AHL team, which is relocating to Hamilton and will play under first-year head coach Jay McKee. The team aims to build on its performance from the previous season, when it qualified for the postseason tournament for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
Mathieu Darche, general manager and executive vice president for the Islanders, expressed confidence in Gold's abilities. "Evan brings a rare combination of experience, intelligence, and results to our Hockey Operations department," Darche said in a team release. "Over the past several years, he has excelled in nearly every facet of building a successful franchise at the NHL and AHL levels — from contract negotiations and cap management to leading the Providence Bruins to the best record in the AHL this past season."
Gold replaces Chris Lamoriello as the GM of the AHL affiliate. Lamoriello will continue in his role as one of Darche's assistant general managers, alongside Ryan Bowness and Steve Pellegrini, with Gold also filling an assistant GM position.
Gold stated that it is "an honor" to join the Islanders organization. His experience also includes working in hockey operations with the Washington Capitals.
