Ireland's Tadhg Furlong Cited for Alleged Groin Grab
The veteran prop faces disciplinary action following an incident in Leinster's URC victory over Munster.
Ireland and Leinster prop Tadhg Furlong has been cited for an alleged act of foul play involving a groin grab during Saturday's United Rugby Championship match against Munster. The allegation was made by Munster's Gavin Coombes to match referee Andrew Brace in the first half, though the television match official could not find immediate video evidence.
Furlong has now been formally cited under Law 9.27, which prohibits actions detrimental to the spirit of good sportsmanship, including grabbing or squeezing the genitals. The disciplinary process is underway, with details to be announced later.
Should Furlong be found guilty, he could face a suspension that would impact Ireland's upcoming Nations Championship fixtures against Argentina, Fiji, and South Africa in Dublin, as well as potential involvement in the finals weekend in London. In a similar case in October 2025, South Africa's Jan-Hendrik Wessels received a nine-match ban for a comparable offense.
Such a suspension could also rule Furlong out of Leinster's Investec Champions Cup Pool match against Sale and festive inter-provincial derbies against Ulster and Munster.
Munster head coach Clayton McMillan expressed support for his player's allegation, stating he would "back our players 100% that if they make an allegation like that." Leinster head coach Leo Cullen acknowledged the seriousness of the matter, although he stated he did not witness the incident himself. The match at Aviva Stadium concluded with Leinster defeating Munster 24-18.
