Inter Milan has submitted a $25 million offer for Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence, according to reports. The Italian club has been pursuing the England international since June and is aiming to reach a compromise fee with Tottenham.
Spence joined Tottenham in 2022 for a fee reported to be around $20 million. Tottenham, however, was initially seeking closer to $36 million for the player. The current offer from Inter Milan represents a significant increase from the original package given to Middlesbrough when Tottenham signed Spence.
Djed Spence, who featured in four World Cup matches for England, including the semi-final against Argentina, has seen his playing time at Tottenham reduced following the arrival of Andy Robertson from Liverpool. Despite signing a new four-year contract at the start of last season, Spence is reportedly open to a move to Inter Milan, who are the reigning Italian champions. Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro are expected to be the preferred full-back options for manager Roberto De Zerbi this season.
A potential advantage for Spence is his versatility; he can play on either side of the defense, with many of his appearances for both Tottenham and England coming at left-back, despite being naturally a right-sided player.
While Spence could remain at Tottenham, he is unlikely to be a first-choice player and may seek more regular minutes, especially after his performances at the World Cup boosted his profile. Tottenham may also be inclined to capitalize on his current market value.
