Hugo Ekitike, the 24-year-old Liverpool striker, made an appearance at Wimbledon on Friday, providing an update on his injury recovery. Ekitike is currently rehabilitating a ruptured right achilles tendon, an injury he sustained on April 14 during Liverpool's Champions League quarter-final match against Paris Saint-Germain.
The injury ruled him out for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season and also forced him to miss France's World Cup campaign. French supporters showed solidarity for the injured player by displaying a banner that read 'Courage Hugo' during a recent friendly match.
This type of injury can typically sideline a player for up to 12 months, suggesting Ekitike may miss a significant portion of the upcoming season. However, fans were able to observe his progress as he attended the tennis event at SW19.
Ekitike, dressed in a Dolce and Gabbana suit, was seen using a cane to assist his mobility while navigating the grounds before watching the tennis.
He has been undergoing rehabilitation in Los Angeles with physiotherapist Berengar Buschmann, who he previously worked with during his time at Eintracht Frankfurt. Buschmann recently shared videos on Instagram showing Ekitike performing various lower leg exercises, including work in a swimming pool and light football drills. Earlier this week, Buschmann also posted a video of Ekitike walking without assistance, noting the milestone of getting out of a walking boot and the gradual improvement in his gait.
Prior to his injury, Ekitike was a notable performer for Liverpool, scoring 17 goals and finishing as the club's top scorer for the 2025-2026 season.
