Jakob Ingebrigtsen claimed the 5,000m gold medal at the European Championships in Birmingham, marking a successful return to competition after an Achilles injury that sidelined him for nearly a year. His last competitive race was at the World Championships in Tokyo in September, where he finished 10th in the 5,000m final as the defending champion.

Ingebrigtsen, who had been out of action during the outdoor season due to the injury, announced his return at the European Championships. "If you're waiting for the perfect preparation, perfect conditions, perfect timing, you'll be waiting your whole life," he stated. Following discussions with his team, he decided to race, acknowledging he was not necessarily in peak condition but was healthy enough to compete.

The race was not without its challenges for the Norwegian athlete. After a slow start, Ingebrigtsen navigated through the field. On the final lap, he found himself behind France's Jimmy Gressier but managed to break free and unleash a strong sprint finish, preserving his undefeated record at the European Championships.
