Ingebrigtsen finishes second in 5km race at World Road Running Championships

Dawit Seare of Eritrea secured the men's 5km title at the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, just edging out Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen in a dramatic sprint finish. Seare's compatriot Saymon Amanuel took the bronze medal.

Ingebrigtsen, the Olympic 5,000m champion, was competing in only his sixth race of an injury-plagued season. He had won the 5,000m track title at the Ultimate Athletics Championships in Budapest just eight days prior.

Despite appearing to be out of contention for much of the race, the 26-year-old Norwegian surged in the final kilometer to take the lead, only to be overtaken by Seare in the final strides. Seare crossed the finish line in 12 minutes and 56 seconds.

In the women's 5km, Ethiopia's Likina Amebaw dominated the field, winning decisively in 14:41, just six days after claiming a 5,000m victory in Budapest. Kenya's Caroline Gitonga finished second, seven seconds behind Amebaw, with Australia's Rose Davies taking third place.

Germany's Robert Farken claimed a surprise victory in the men's mile, overtaking American Yared Nuguse in the closing 100 meters to win in 3:51.80. This marks Farken's first major title.

Agathe Guillemot of France won the women's mile in 4:22.74, the fastest road time in the world this year. She timed her final push perfectly to beat Ethiopia's Freweyni Hailu, while Kenya's Mirriam Cherop secured third place.

The World Road Running Championships continue with the elite half-marathon races on Sunday.
