IndyCar Driver Jack Harvey Vows to Race Indy 500 After Cancer Diagnosis

IndyCar driver Jack Harvey announced Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with cancer but remains committed to competing in the upcoming Indianapolis 500.

The 33-year-old British driver shared his diagnosis on X, formerly Twitter, though he did not specify the type of cancer.

"My entire career has been about fighting for what's next," Harvey stated on the social media platform. "The next opportunity. The next chance to prove myself. The next time I could get back in the car and show what I'm capable of.

"Life has delivered a new fight to my doorstep. I have recently been diagnosed with cancer."

Harvey, who has raced part-time in the IndyCar Series, outlined his intentions for the 2027 season.

"My goals for 2027 have not changed," he wrote. "I plan to be on the grid [at the season opener in St. Petersburg] and strapping back into a race car this May in preparation for the Indianapolis 500.

"I am receiving excellent care and support from the team around me, my family, friends, [Dreyer & Reinbold Racing], FOX, INDYCAR and many more.

"I've never backed away from a challenge in my life and this circumstance is no different. So... Let's fight."

Harvey has been racing in IndyCar, America's top open-wheel series, since moving up from the Indy Lights series, where he last won in 2015. He finished ninth at the 2020 Indy 500 and 22nd in the 2026 running.

His announcement has drawn messages of support from fellow drivers and the IndyCar community. "We're with you brother," wrote driver Conor Daly. "You got this."

Chip Ganassi Racing also offered support, stating, "Sending all of our support."
