Indiana Hoosiers Running Back Turbo Richard Nearing Return from Injury

Indiana running back Turbo Richard, who sustained a leg injury during the Hoosiers' victory over Northwestern, is expected to be available for Saturday's road game against Rutgers. Coach Curt Cignetti announced Monday that Richard is "day to day" and expressed optimism about his return.

Richard, a transfer from Boston College, was injured in the second quarter of Indiana's 29-23 win against Northwestern. He was driven out of bounds and tackled awkwardly, prompting his departure from the game. Prior to the injury, Richard had been Indiana's leading rusher, accumulating 383 yards and four touchdowns on 50 carries, along with two catches for 43 yards.

His potential return is significant as backup running back Lee Beebe Jr. may have to carry a heavier workload. Beebe stepped in for Richard against Northwestern, rushing for 203 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries, including a crucial 70-yard run that set up Indiana's game-sealing score. Beebe now leads the team with 398 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

The team's running back depth has been tested, with the other back in the rotation, Khobie Martin, still sidelined with a broken arm. Cignetti indicated Martin is expected back in the coming weeks.

Indiana also received positive news regarding linebacker Rolijah Hardy, who left the Northwestern game with an undisclosed injury. Cignetti stated that Hardy is also expected to be fine and available for Saturday's contest. Hardy is tied for the team lead in tackles with 18, including eight against Northwestern.

The Hoosiers enter their game against Rutgers with a 4-0 record and an active winning streak of 20 consecutive games, the longest in the Football Bowl Subdivision. They also hold a 19-game home winning streak and have won their last 12 conference games.
