Indiana Hoosiers edge Minnesota in overtime, extend national title defense

The fourth-ranked Indiana Hoosiers secured their second consecutive overtime victory on Saturday, narrowly defeating unranked Minnesota 23-16 to continue their national title defense. The win followed last week's 13-6 overtime triumph over Michigan.

Backup quarterback Grant Wilson connected with Charlie Becker for a 25-yard touchdown on the first play of overtime. Indiana's defense then forced a turnover on Minnesota's ensuing possession to seal the win.

Minnesota had taken a 16-13 lead with 19 seconds remaining in regulation on Luke Drzewiecki's 60-yard field goal. However, Charlie Becker's 33-yard reception set up Paddy McAteer for a game-tying 60-yard field goal as time expired.

Indiana struggled at times, pulling starting quarterback Josh Hoover at halftime after he threw his second interception of the season. Two late replay reviews also overturned significant plays, including a potential go-ahead touchdown pass and an interception that would have given Indiana favorable field position.

Wilson finished the game with 156 passing yards and one touchdown, while Hoover had 119 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. Becker was a key target for the Hoosiers, catching eight passes for 149 yards and the decisive touchdown.

For Minnesota, quarterback Drake Lindsey completed 20 passes for 120 yards and one touchdown. Javon Tracy recorded seven receptions for 40 yards.

The loss dropped Minnesota to 0-13 all-time against defending national champions. The Golden Gophers have not defeated Top 25 opponents in back-to-back weeks since 1956.

Indiana, which continues its longest active winning streak in the nation, will have a bye week before hosting Southern California on November 14. Minnesota is scheduled to host No. 7 UCLA next Saturday.
