Indiana Fever Fire GM Amber Cox Following Disappointing Season
The move follows the departure of team president Kelly Krauskopf and comes after the team's failure to advance past the WNBA semifinals.
The Indiana Fever have dismissed general manager Amber Cox, with multiple reports confirming the decision. This organizational change comes shortly after team president Kelly Krauskopf announced her resignation on Friday.
The firings follow a disappointing sixth-place finish in the WNBA standings and a first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Las Vegas Aces. Head coach Stephanie White is expected to remain with the team, as she has one year left on her contract. White took over coaching duties in 2025, the same year star guard Caitlin Clark entered her second WNBA season.
Clark, a three-time All-Star, has reached the playoffs in each of her three professional seasons but has yet to advance beyond the WNBA semifinals. Despite this playoff success, the Fever's 2026 season was marked by offensive prowess, setting a league record for the highest-scoring offense fueled by Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston. However, the team struggled defensively, allowing an average of 90.4 points per game, a rate worse than all but four other teams in the league.
Adding to the team's challenges, Kelsey Mitchell is now an unrestricted free agent and is expected to explore offers in the open market.
Cox, formerly the Big East Conference commissioner, took on the general manager role in 2024. She recently addressed public concerns regarding fan behavior, particularly after an incident involving Aces player A'ja Wilson and a courtside fan during a playoff game. Cox stated that attacks on the fanbase were unfounded and emphasized that while occasional disruptive behavior occurs in sports at all levels, individuals crossing the line must be held accountable.
The management changes appear to align with some fan sentiment, as many expressed a desire for further accountability within the organization.
