Igor Shesterkin Out for Rest of Season After Lower-Body Injury
The New York Rangers will be without their $92 million goaltender for the remainder of the season following a lower-body injury sustained Friday.
The New York Rangers confirmed Saturday that goaltender Igor Shesterkin will miss the remainder of the season due to a lower-body injury. Shesterkin sustained the injury in the first period of the Rangers' loss to the Washington Capitals on Friday. He was seen jamming his right skate into the post while attempting to make a save and was unable to put weight on his right leg as he was helped off the ice.
Shesterkin, who signed a $92 million contract, had started the season with a 3-1 record, contributing to the Rangers' four consecutive wins. His absence leaves a significant gap in the team's goaltending.
Adding to the team's goaltending challenges, Joonas Korpisalo is expected to be sidelined for another four weeks. Spencer Martin, currently with AHL Hartford, is listed as day-to-day. This situation may leave the inexperienced Callum Tung to serve as backup to Dylan Garand, unless the Rangers opt to sign a veteran goaltender.
