HYROX Racer Apologizes for Continuing Competition After Incontinence Incident

Australian HYROX competitor Joanna Wietrzyk has broken her silence following an incident in Beijing where she continued racing after experiencing bowel incontinence. The world record holder, who went on to win the September event, has issued an apology for her decision and its consequences.

In an Instagram video, Wietrzyk stated that she has had time to reflect on the situation and acknowledged it has been a difficult period. "I just wanna say that I'm truly, truly so sorry to everyone that I affected, whether they were spectators or participants out on that race floor for my decision to choose to continue to race," she said.

Wietrzyk, who is preparing to compete again in Germany, added that her time away from competition has been a learning experience. "And having that time to reflect, I've really learned a lot from the situation, and, yeah, I am very, very sorry for it all," she stated.

The incident sparked widespread discussion and debate online regarding sportsmanship and the handling of such situations. Wietrzyk appeared in her apology video wearing sponsored apparel, with a Puma jacket and hoodie visible.
