Hull City Training Ground Road Dubbed 'Most Dangerous' After Two Player Crashes

Millhouse Woods Lane, located near Hull City's training ground, has been labeled the Premier League's most dangerous road after two players, Sorba Thomas and Lucas Gourna-Douath, crashed their vehicles in separate incidents within a month.

Both players reportedly flipped their cars in the same location and miraculously walked away unharmed, though their vehicles sustained significant damage. The incidents have sparked an investigation into the road's safety, with a local councilor suggesting a speed limit reduction.

A Deceptively Treacherous Road

An investigation by the Daily Mail revealed that Millhouse Woods Lane, a quiet residential road, presents unexpected driving challenges. The road is lined with parked cars on one side, requiring drivers heading towards the training ground to maneuver into the opposing lane. While the posted speed limit is 30 mph, it is described as an 'absolute maximum.'

During a test drive at a significantly reduced speed, it became apparent how easily an incident could occur. The road has a substantial kerb on the right-hand side, and drivers may not realize the limited space available when moving into the right lane. Clipping this kerb at any considerable speed could easily cause a vehicle to flip onto its roof.

Lib Dem Councillor Phil Redshaw commented on the incidents, stating that a reduction of the speed limit to 10 mph might not be unreasonable, given that both vehicles overturned onto the pavement. He has requested an urgent safety review, emphasizing that these events cannot simply be dismissed as isolated accidents.

"Whatever the cause, given the fact that both vehicles overturned on to the pavement, a reduction of the speed limit to 10mph would not appear unreasonable," Redshaw told Daily Mail Sport. "We can’t just write it off as two unfortunate incidents."

Player Safety and Road Awareness

While the crashes have so far resulted in no injuries to the players, the incidents highlight the importance of road safety. Gourna-Douath even posted a lighthearted comment on Instagram about his crash, joking, "Can't park there mate."

To address player safety, Shaun Whiter, a former non-league player who had both legs amputated following a road traffic accident, has been invited to speak to 72 English Football League clubs about safe driving. Whiter shared his personal story of losing limbs and the profound impact it had on his life and career, illustrating the severe ripple effects of road accidents.

Local resident Terry Pearson noted that players appear to be in a rush to get to training, adding, "However, as a local road user I'd say they should leave the flipping for opponents in games."

The club's manager, Sergej Jakirovic, is expected to address the matter with the team upon their return after the international break.
