The Houston Astros and general manager Dana Brown have "mutually agreed to part ways," the team announced Monday, effective immediately. The Astros' baseball operations will be overseen by owner and chairman Jim Crane during the transition period as the team contends for a playoff spot.
Brown had served as the Astros' general manager since January 26, 2023. In a statement, the team acknowledged his contributions over the past four seasons, noting that he helped the organization secure two division titles and led the front office in key scouting, draft, and development efforts.
"We wish he and his family the best," the statement read. Brown's contract was scheduled to conclude at the end of the 2026 season.
Brown expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as an MLB general manager and thanked the Astros organization and fans for their welcome. "I wish the organization well and I look forward to the future as I continue my 36-plus years in professional baseball," he said.
The Astros currently hold a 65-66 record and are tied for first place with the Texas Rangers in the American League West division. The team has lost six of its last eight games. Assistant general managers Charles Cook, Gavin Dickey, and Connor Huff, along with senior advisor Jeff Bagwell, will assume Brown's former responsibilities.
