Hojlund Shoves Manager Jesus Amid Ronaldo's Portugal Exit Fallout

Denmark's Rasmus Hojlund pushed Portugal manager Jorge Jesus after a match on Thursday, an incident that occurred in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo's exit from the national team.

The confrontation unfolded after Denmark's 4-2 defeat to Portugal, with TV footage showing Hojlund shoving Jesus as the coach approached for a handshake. Jesus appeared to react calmly to the gesture, while Hojlund exchanged words with the manager before moving away.

Earlier in the match, Hojlund, who has publicly stated his admiration for Ronaldo and considers him an idol, performed the Portuguese star's signature "Siu" celebration after scoring an equalizer. Hojlund stated at the time that the celebration was "for my idol" and not intended to mock him.

Ronaldo left the Portugal team camp after reportedly taking issue with comments made by Jesus during a press conference. Jesus had indicated that Ronaldo would not start the match against Denmark, a decision that followed Ronaldo being an unused substitute in Portugal's previous 2-1 victory over Norway.

Following his omission from the starting lineup against Norway, Ronaldo left the stadium without acknowledging the win or applauding supporters. The situation escalated to the point where the Prime Minister of Portugal reportedly spoke with the veteran forward by phone.

Ronaldo later confirmed his departure from the training camp via an Instagram statement, citing a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation and comments from the coach. He stated that he would reveal the reasons for his departure at a later time and wished his teammates luck.

Jesus, who took over as Portugal's coach after the World Cup, asserted that he maintained control of the team and had the players' full support. He stated that the team believed in his ideas, which were made easier by the players' individual quality.

Reports from Portugal suggest that Ronaldo could face a suspension of one to six months for abandoning the team, according to the Portuguese Football Federation's disciplinary code. This potential sanction could mark a significant turning point in Ronaldo's international career as he approaches his 42nd birthday.
